Fireproof Gun Safes- For Complete Security Of Your GunsGun safes are important for the proper storage of your guns. However, they must be strong enough to protect your guns from burglary and incidents like fire. Generally, all good quality gun safes are fire resistant. The standard rating is that of 30 minutes for the basic fireproof gun safes, whereas fire protection of multiple hours is ensured by high quality safes. Normally, fire safes that assure a fire resistance of one or two hours are perfect to meet your requirements. Fireproof gun safes are especially designed to keep a check on the environment inside the safe. This would protect the guns, cash and documents inside the safe, from outside temperatures that may rise due to a sudden fire break out. However, data storage devices like floppy disks, DVDs, and CDs are not usually protected. So, make sure to verify the rating of these gun safes to know what items they can protect. This complete fire protection of the gun safes is achieved with insulation within the walls. Ceramic wool blankets and sheet-rock are the two most common insulators that are used to ensure fire resistance of a gun deposit. Insulation rating of ceramic wool is much higher than that of sheet-rock. But, when sheet rock is placed between the steel plates, it can even prove to be very effective. As the safe gets heated due to the outside fire, water molecules contained inside the sheep-rock start to vaporize and make steam. This water conversion into steam absorbs the heat energy. The safe is also pressurized because of this conversion which seals it from the front flames and heat. Smoke seals are also installed surrounding the doors of gun safes that expand in fire. The doors and walls of a fire resistant gun safe usually have a thickness of minimum 1". This thickness is increased according to the rating of the safe. To evaluate the fire resistance capacity of a safe, it should be checked for its UL certification rating, instead of rating by the manufacturer themselves which is hardly worthy enough to consider. Also, do not forget to take notice of the ratings of temperatures of different parts of the safe that they are expected to reach in case the fire breaks out. In case, you also need a burglary protection along with a fire protection, look for fireproof gun safes that at least have a B-rated construction. Because of the steel thickness, it is necessary to use a fire cladding which is 2.5" thick. This will help in the insulation of the steel part of the gun safe. |
